Immortal blackbird

Jane Dougherty Writes

Today is far too glorious not to be happy. Today’s poem is short and full of hope.

A life too short, the blackbird’s is soon told

A few sweet summers and fewer winters long and cold.

The blackbird singing in the hedge at summer’s height

May fade into the darkness of a winter’s night.

But when the blackthorn flowers with the spring

There will always be a blackbird in the hedge to sing.
